Math 9 is a course that focuses on basic mathematical and foundational algebraic concepts. It will include experiences and activities that allow you to complete the course with an understanding and feeling for the value of mathematics in our lives. Problem solving, mathematical reasoning, and mental computation will be incorporated into this course. Every skill that you are required to master in this course is essential to master the Algebra 1 Eligible Content, which will be assessed on the Algebra 1 Keystone Exam. This keystone exam will be administered to you upon completion of the Algebra 1 course. The concepts assessed on this exam must be mastered at a proficient level. If you do not perform at a proficient level on this assessment, you will be required to retake the assessment and obtain proficiency as a graduation requirement.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of Math 9, the student will be able to:
· classify, order, compare, and use properties of real numbers.
· translate between verbal and algebraic expressions.
· use the order of operations to simplify and evaluate expressions.
· define relations, functions, domain, and range.
· evaluate, write, interpret, and graph functions.
· solve basic linear equations and advanced equations.
· solve, graph, and interpret linear inequalities.
Problem solving and real-world applications of these concepts will be highly integrated into this course.
