Reading

Some reading classrooms at Greater Johnstown use the Reading Mastery Program.  Mine is one of them.  The Reading Mastery program is used in thousands of schools across the country and has been a successful reading intervention program with a wide range of students, including significantly at-risk populations, for more than 35 years.  This program uses a highly explicit, systematic approach of Direct Instruction to accelerate reading and help students achieve a high rate of success.  It helps students develop into fluent, independent, and highly skilled readers.  Three strands address Reading, Language Arts, and Literature through a common instructional design that helps students learn more efficiently.  With the addition of technology-based resources for both additional practice and professional development, I can optimize each minute spent in the classroom.  Students in my classroom will also be exposed to the Wonders curriculum.  We will read and respond to grade-level text.
