Welcome to 1st grade! My name is Jennifer Gardenhour and I am very excited to be teaching at Greater Johnstown Elementary this year. I’d like to start off by briefly telling you a little about myself, my expectations for this school year, and some basics that will help your child be successful this year.
I was born and raised in Johnstown, however, I spent nine years teaching fourth grade in Northern Virginia. I am excited to be returning my 15th year teaching 1st grade. I am a Greater Johnstown graduate, so it’s always exciting to teach where I received my own education. I am a Penn State graduate where I earned my degree in Elementary and Kindergarten Education. I have also completed my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Gannon University. I truly enjoy working with children. They are curious, exciting, and a bit challenging! I am married and have 3 children. My oldest son is a senior, my daughter is in 8th grade, and my youngest son is in second grade!
I have a very exciting and eventful year planned for your child. I know that I will be working with another group of wonderful and enthusiastic children. In 1st grade, I feel that it is important to stress respect, following directions, and responsibility. The children will learn that they need to be responsible for what they do in and out of the classroom. If at any time during the school year you have questions or concerns, I encourage you to please contact me as soon as possible. Communication is key and I feel that together we can create a positive learning experience for your child.
