Dress Code Updates

STUDENT DRESS CODE 2017-2018

· All students are expected to adhere to common practices of modesty, cleanliness and neatness and to dress in such a manner as to contribute to an academic atmosphere. Any clothing, object, or manner of personal grooming that is unsafe, unhealthy, or is otherwise disruptive to the educational process is prohibited. The following is a listing of sample violations. This is not an all-inclusive list.

JEWELRY

· Jewelry that is disruptive or causes a valid health or safety risk.

· Jewelry that is dangerous such as dog collars, fish hooks, wallet chains, belt chains, spiked jewelry, etc

CLOTHING

· Clothing with writing, pictures, symbols relating to alcohol, drugs, sexual connotations, racial slurs, profanity, violence, cults, gangs, prisons, death, gore

· Clothing with names and/or logos of high schools other than Girard High School

· Ripped, torn, frayed or cut off clothing that exposes skin

· Pants, shorts and skirts not worn at the waist or that are see through

· Sleepwear, including pajamas and/or slippers

· Shirts that reveal the mid-section, shoulders, cleavage, back, or are see through

· Shorts that do not extend beyond fingertip length around the entirety of the garment (Aug, Sep, Oct, April, & May only)

· Open toe shoes without socks

· Outdoor clothing in classrooms (hats, gloves, coats)

· Skirts that do not extend beyond fingertip length

· Hats, caps, scarves, bandannas

· Buttons, badges, patches or other items with obscene or offensive words, phrases, or illustrations

HAIR STYLES

· Hair covering the eyes

· Facial hair not trimmed and groomed

· Shavings in the eyebrows
