Tegu Project
Argentine Black and White Tegus (Salvator merianae) have the potential to be very harmful to our native wildlife and agricultural resources. This species has been introduced into at least two counties in Georgia. I worked with Georgia DNR and the United States Geological Survey from 2019-2023 to monitor and trap these animals. While the project is complete, tegus continue to be sighted and remove around the state.
If you see what you think is a tegu in Georgia, please do the following:
take a photo of it,
record its location (address or GPS coordinates) and any other noted movements
report the info above to me and/or online at GAINVASIVES.ORG
EMAIL ME FOR FLYERS ON HOW TO IDENTIFY AND REPORT A TEGU
You can also see the links below to stories and videos on the tegu problem.
