Chem 057 "General Chemistry Lab for Majors", Fall 2012, 2013, 2014.
Chem 211/213 "Analytical Chemistry and Lab", Fall 2004, 2005, 2006 (chem 211), 2007, 2009 (chem 211), 2010 (chem 211), 2011 (chem 211)
The learning in chem 211 is conducted through a combination of adapted primary literature, student-centered Process-Oriented & Guided-Inquiry learning (POGIL), and Case Study approaches. Students work in groups consisting of 3 to 4 members on designed class activities and case studies that challenge students in discovering and formulating their own learning processes. The instructor acts more like a coach of a sport team rather than an authoritative "all-knowing" teacher. In the same spirit, in Chem 213 students are challenged to select, plan, execute, and write up their own projects using TAs and the instructor only as logistical and intellectual resources.
Chem 323 "Physical Chemical Measurements", Fall 2001, 2002, 2003.
We are using a new approach to the course, i.e., using the engaged knowledge-inquiring process. By mimicking real life research, this course intends to offer students opportunities to formulate actively and execute independently their own plan of action for each experiment by working in a team setting. The instructor and TAs are equal partners and team-players in this process. The goal here is to offer challenging opportunities for students to develop an engaging aptitude of becoming an intentional, life-time learner that would empower them for whatever career path they may choose in the future.
