The first year of Pinnacle has been a great learning experience for my students and for me as a teacher! Technology integration has been my primary focus in both social studies and science while seeking to increase proficiency on the social studies North Carolina Final Exam and Science End of Grade Test. We have enjoyed learning and utilizing new forms of technology!

Selling Colonial America
After completion of the unit on colonization of America, my students were given the task of picking a colony to research and trying to sell that colony to other potential colonists so they would move there to settle. They were to include information about their colony that someone would need or want to know at the time, if living in England and considered a colony in America to move to for settlement.

Save the Plankton Activity
Math Integration with Plankton Discussion of Photosynthetic Activity
My lesson was taken from the site, http://www.nationalgeographic.org/activity/save-the-plankton-breathe-freely/. I adapted the lesson to meet the needs of my content and my students and also integrated technology. After the discussion of plankton and their production of oxygen through photosynthesis, their role in marine ecosystems, and the plankton math cross curricular activity, we started the technology integration piece. Students were given the task to design a t-shirt or bumper sticker using Google Draw to create a poster with their design to sell to potential customers. Below is the rubric used for this and they had to share their drawing with me in Google Classroom.
Save the Plankton Assignment
Decide whether you are going to design a bumper sticker or t-shirt to support your cause “Save the Plankton.”
Go to Google Drawings and start designing your project. You must include the following on your design around your project:
-actual design for the t-shirt or bumper sticker (keep in
mind that you are trying to sell this to make a profit for
your cause, so people will not want to buy a plain design)
-cost of your bumper sticker or t-shirt (research online
cost to make the item you choose don’t just decide this on
your own)
-how much of your total cost or what percentage of the
Total cost will be donated to the cause “Save the
Plankton”
-How many of your breaths a day come from plankton (p.
30 in your notebook)
-Why saving the plankton and keeping them alive is
Important
3. When you finish you need to share your Google Drawing with me from the Google Classroom page.
