Q & A about Food and Nutrition I:
Do we have to clean?
ABSOLUTELY! Cleanliness is extremely important in the kitchen in regards to sanitation and food safety. We will always clean before, during, and after cooking. This is a non-negotiable.
Do I have to cook?
All students should be involved in cooking labs and lessons. Choosing not to participate in ANY part of the assignment will be reflected in the grade you earn. You can't earn a grade if you do not participate.
Are there projects?
Yes. Projects are NOT allowed to be re-tested.
Do you give extra-credit?
I do not believe in extra-credit. I believe ample credit is given during the course to be earned. All grades are EARNED and there are plenty of opportunities to do this. One assignment will not be the fixer for your grade.
Do I have to wear a hair net or gloves?
Gaston County Schools, and subsequently East Gaston High School, follow ServSafe and the guidelines of this program. Sanitation is important when working with food. Gloves will be worn if there is a cut on a student's hand/finger or nail polish is worn. Long hair will be pulled back and a hair net is always possible. If students do not follow the rules and guidelines established then they will not cook and therefore not be able to earn a grade. This is non-negotiable.
