Penny is a chartered building surveyor; Fellow of the Australian Institute of Building (FAIB); Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS); Accredited member of Association of Consultants in Access Australia, QBCC licensed Open builder and client project manager with extensive experience in construction and access consultancy.
15 years as co-director of a building and construction consultancy (1993-2008) prior to relocating to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Penny’s experience is founded on the unusual combination of practical commercial consultancy and high level strategic research and management consultancy in property, construction and related delivery and directing of tertiary education. In 1995 her PhD analysed client procurement decisions of 20% (by value) of UK construction work, to develop an improved understanding of the drivers behind procurement decisions. Other management consultancy/research studies have included work for the European Union, International charities and Developers.

2010 – 2013: University of Newcastle, NSW - Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Built Environment
2008 – 2013 RICS Oceania Built Environment Group – committee member.
2000 – 2013 RICS Education Trust – Trustee and Board member;
1999 –2005 Christ’s Hospital School – Board member Estates Sub-Committee –responsible for $120m (1999) 10-year master development plan implementation.
1996 – 1997 Steering Group member for Building Research Establishment/ Department of the Environment project to produce sector specific procurement guidance.
One of Penny’s strengths is the ease with which she can move from international boardroom environment to a local building site. Indeed, Penny says that it is the diversity of work that is satisfying whilst being able to work in the local community is particularly rewarding.
Penny’s experience includes strategic asset management roles; portfolio accessibility/DDA audits and implementation of upgrades; technical due diligence; client project management/superintendent roles including prefabricated buildings, healthcare, commercial; research management and tertiary education consultancy.
