Welcome to Horry County Schools Intervention. One of the many ways schools seek to improve literacy growth is by adding reading intervention programs to existing literary curricula. The main purpose of reading intervention is to improve students' reading by helping increase their decoding, fluency, comprehension, or vocabulary. Students who attend reading intervention are a part of a community of learners who have an opportunity to increase their skills to become strong and confident readers and writers.
On this site, you will find various resources and materials that can be used to assist in the teaching of the intervention programs used in HCS grades Kindergarten through fifth. This site is constantly being updated with the latest materials needed to teach these programs effectively. Please feel free to download any document that you may need to help you better instruct the students that you serve through intervention.

Our schools are committed to providing high-quality instruction and support to promote the highest achievement of all students. The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework schools use to provide instruction and support that maximizes the success of all students. Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework for integrating levels (or tiers) of academic and behavior support to promote the success of all students. Sometimes this is referred to as RTI, or response to intervention.
The high-quality classroom instruction that all students receive. This tier encompasses best practices, differentiated instruction, and is constantly refined by what is working at Tier 2 and Tier 3. Typically, districts aim to see 80-90% of students in Tier 1. This is provided by the classroom teacher through whole group and small group instruction.
The evidence-based supports provided to students who are identified as struggling. Tier 2 interventions are typically implemented in small group settings, based on a similar need identified through assessment and for the sake of systematic efficiency. In our district interventionists use Burst and Passport programs to support Tier 2 students.
These supports are implemented for students not responding to Tier 2 supports. Tier 3 supports provide more frequent, intense, and individualized interventions. Usually, districts expect to see 1-5% of students in Tier 3. In our district interventionist use Kaleidoscope for grades 2-3 and Language! 4e for grades 4-5 to support students in Tier 3. Interventionists monitor students through progress monitoring and analyzing data collected from these probes.
