Syllabus

Welcome to middle school! We are excited to have you at Mountain Valley Middle School and look forward to a great year. We will be studying the United States' revolution, westward expansion and Civil War. The following is a list of supplies and expectations for class and a basic outline of our class activities. Please read over this with your student and return with signature for a daily grade.

Classroom Expectations

We have high expectations for all our students and to ensure success. Here is a list of what we expect in the classroom.

1. Treat all members of our learning community with respect.

2. We begin on time. Be in assigned seat before the tardy bell rings, and remain there unless otherwise instructed.

3. Bring appropriate materials to class every day.

4. The bell does not dismiss the class; I will dismiss the class when all students are seated and quiet.

5. Obey all classroom and school rules.

Supplies for our class

The following supplies will be used in our class daily and will need to be used for just my class.

Pencils/ pens (to be brought daily).

Colored Pencils

Spiral/Composition Notebook

The grading system is broken down in the following:

Daily work and homework 25%

Quizzes and Common Assessments 35%

Major Grades such as tests and projects 40%

Late Work and Absences

We will have a strict late work policy. After the first day it is late the student will lose 20% of his/her grade. (a 100 records as 80). 2 Days late. (a 100 records as 60). 3 days late. (a 100 records as 0). ***Does not include weekends.

As the student handbook states, the student will have one day of make up time per day missed of school for excused absences only. This will not pertain to assignments where the student had an entire nine weeks period to complete the assignment.

Test Correction Policy

Test grades below 70 may be corrected and brought up to a 75 within 5 school days that the graded test was passed back. To receive full credit, the student must copy the question and the correct answer for each missed question on a separate sheet of paper and turn in with original test. Tests are worth 40% of your grade.

Tardy Policy

Students have five minutes of passing time between classes and should take care of restroom breaks and other business then. Students will not be able to leave the classroom during instructional time.

We are looking forward to a successful year with your 8th grader. Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
