Get to Know Your Teacher

Hello! I want to tell you a little about myself so you can quickly get to know me better.

Where Am I From

I grew up in New Concord, Ohio and my high school was about the size of Bayport - Blue Point. I moved to Long Island to attend college at Long Island University in Southampton, NY and study Marine Biology. After graduating from LIU, and working in environmental and marine outdoor education for a while, I went back to school. I received my Master's of Arts in Teaching Biology from Stony Brook University.

What Do I Do In My Free Time

For the most part, I like to spend time with my husband, Jon and my daughter, Mahriem. We like to travel, cook, and kayak. We are also summer campers. And we have a bucket list goal to camp in all 50 states together. So far we've done California, South Dakota, Maine, Michigan and New York.

I also like to read (very wide range of interests), although I usually find myself listening to audio books in the car rather than actually reading the books. I've recently 'read' books by Brandon Sanderson and The KingKiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss (fantasy types), also The Century Trilogy (WWI/WWII/Vietnam historical fiction) by Ken Follett. I read Into The Water by Paula Hawkins and American Gods by Neil Gaiman (recently adapted for TV). I like to binge watch shows on Netflix when I have the time.

I also like to swim (ocean, bay and pool) and paint when I'm feeling creative. I also like spending time with my cat, Lolli (who is the most adorable thing on 4 paws!)

What I Did Before BBPHS

This school year will be my sixth at BBPHS. Before arriving here, I taught marine biology and environmental education laboratory classes for Western Suffolk BOCES Outdoor Environmental Education Program. I also taught marine biology classes to grades K-5 for Cornell Cooperative Extension in Southold, NY. I have been involved in research projects involving fish populations, endangered Piping Plovers, and phytoplankton blooms in Peconic Bay.
