GATE - (Many changes are taking place regarding the GATE program for this year. Updates will hopefully come to us soon.)
GATE students are required to do work that is above and beyond, which does not mean more work, just differentiated work. That means more critical thinking questions and the use of the GATE differentiated tasks.
Math Springboard
In class, students will be taught “whole group” and either stay for more explanation or work on challenges with other students.
Students are required to do the same daily homework page, however, there are math challenges on our site that are posted weekly for students to work on if they want a further challenge.
Writing
Students are always instructed to write compound and complex sentences. Every writing assignment will be expected to have correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Vocabulary will be above sixth-grade level.
Behavior/Study Skills
Being GATE does not mean just being "high" or "gifted" academically; it means that behavior and organization needs to match the high levels of learning. Some GATE students struggle with organization, and I will help them. It is expected that GATE students are role models, as since they have mastered the standards, they need to be able to learn how to “share their knowledge” with others.
Reading
It is mandatory that all GATE students read and work from the same books as their peers, although will have differentiated questions based on the "Content Imperatives" of "Icons of Depth and Complexity", which is part of the FUSD GATE program.
