Download the SORA app by Overdrive for your phone, tablet, or computer!
*Search for “Sora” at the App Store or on Google Play. Download. On a desktop, access from any web browser at soraapp.com.
*Find your school. Choose “FriscoISD” and click “this is my school.” (If you are not in Frisco when doing this and you don’t see FriscoISD as a choice, click “My school isn't listed” and type in the frisco. When Frisco ISD appears, choose that option)
*Your account is already created! Just sign into Frisco ISD Sora with your 6-digit student ID number. Once you’ve saved this information on your device, you shouldn’t need to enter it again. (STAFF: your account number is the first part of your ADS log-in on district email. It is case sensitive, so make sure it matches exactly! For example, SmithB needs capital letters for the last name and first initial.)
*Browse the “Explore” tab to find books. This looks like a pair of Binoculars.
*Next to the binoculars on the search tab is a circle showing which book you currently have open. Next to that is an icon with three books, which is your bookshelf. Tap this to see all items that you have checked out.
*On the Bookshelf, choose “Options” in the middle of the page and you’ll be able to renew your book (unless someone else has a hold on it.) If the book has already expired, you will need to check it out again. You can also use this page to return a book early--simply click the "return" field.
*There are hundreds of audiobooks on Sora! To find them, click the “Explore” binoculars, then tap the magnifying glass at the top left corner of the page. When the search screen opens, choose the “Advanced Search”, then tap “Format” and choose audiobook. Otherwise, Sora will show both print and audiobooks.
*If you have a library card with Frisco or Plano Public Library, you can add them to your Sora app and search them all at the same time! Click the down arrow under Frisco ISD at the top of the screen, then “Add a public library” from the dropdown menu. To search all your libraries at the same time, find the magnifying glass at the top. Under it is a box that says “Search all of my libraries.” Click this, and Sora will automatically search for your book in every library on your list.
*FISD will allow you to check out three books at a time, for three weeks each. Please keep in mind that at times of high demand, you may need to put books on hold and keep looking for something else that’s available right now. You can also look for e-books on MackinVia.com.
To return, renew or place a hold on a book in Sora:
Open the Sora app and look at the home screen. At the bottom, you’ll see a circle in the middle that shows the book you currently have open. To the left of the circle is a small pair of binoculars (this is the “Explore”, or search, feature). To the right of the circle is a stack of three books. This is your bookshelf. Click on the bookshelf icon and you’ll see a list of the all the books you currently have checked out.
To renew, click “Options” under the book you want to renew. On the next screen, right under the “open book” field, you’ll see the “Renew” button. Sora will allow you to renew your book starting two days before it expires, as long as no one else has a hold on it. (If someone does, and you want to finish reading it later, put a hold on it yourself after it is automatically checked in, so you can get in line for it again.
To return your book, once again open the bookshelf and choose “Options”. Directly under the Renew field is one that says “Return”. Click this, and then click the grey “return” button in the middle of the next screen to verify that’s what you want to do. Your book will be returned, which will allow you to check out another one right away.
To place a hold on a book that's already checked out: After doing your search, if the book you want is checked out, instead of the blue "Borrow" link you'll see "Place hold" in the same location. Clicking it will place the hold and take you to the next screen, where it also shows you how long it will likely be until the book becomes available. To cancel a hold, click "options" on this screen and choose "cancel hold."
