My name is Sera Bocian, and I am the school counselor at Rogers Elementary. I have the amazing opportunity to support every child’s academic success, emotional well-being, and future readiness. I partner with parents, teachers, and administrators to make sure all students feel safe, important, and ready to learn. I work proactively with the students to teach them important life skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom, such as:
Emotional Regulation: Teaching healthy coping strategies to manage big feelings and stress
Friendship Skills: Navigating how to make friends, keep friends, and offer genuine apologies
Accountability & Responsibility: Owning mistakes and making things right
Conflict Resolution: Solving peer disagreements peacefully and constructively
Self-Advocacy/Bullying Support: Finding their voice, standing up for themselves, and expressing their needs
Empathy: Understanding other perspectives and building a kind school community
Future Planning & Goal Setting: Exploring interests and talking about their future
Character Strength Education: Creativity, Proactivity, Honesty, Kindness, Self-Control, Emotional Intelligence, Grit, Judgment, Gratitude
I routinely interact with the students though:
Student Quick-Conversations: Regarding the topics listed above
Celebrations for Character Strengths (Grit Kids): All the students who are nominated to receive the monthly character strength award earn to eat lunch in my room during their grade-level lunch time
New Student Lunches
Guidance Lessons: These whole-group lessons can be found on my website (Goal setting, Bullying Prevention, Emotional Regulation, Healthy Relationships, Mindfulness, Accepting Differences)
Attendance Support or Academic Support
Behavior Support (if behavior is impeding academic progress)
Crisis Support: a concern of “Harm-to-self” or “Harm-to-others”
If your child ever asks for or needs more from me than listed above, I will contact you to explain the situation and get your permission before I proceed:
Multiple Student Check-ins: If your child needs or requests me to check-in on them multiple times regarding the same topic, I will let you know and get your permission to continue these conversations.
Social-Emotional Skill Building: If your child may benefit from social-emotional skill-building (in a small group setting or one-on-one), I will let you know and get your permission.
Outside Counseling:If your child may benefit from seeking outside counseling, I will provide resources to you at your request.
Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Sera Bocian
