Upcoming Kinders! Self-Care Skills
{These skills should be taught at home and the child should be self sufficient by the time they start Kindergarten}
Upcoming kindergartners should be well on their way to caring for their own bodies. They should be able to dress and undress themselves, and they should be able to independently deal with the clothes they wear to school. If your child can’t button their pants without help, you might want to send them in different pants. Most kids do not want to walk out, in front of 25 fellow-students, to ask their teacher to button their pants. Practice, practice, practice, to avoid your child being embarrassed.
Bathroom skills are of the utmost importance! K kiddos must be able to use the restroom themselves, wipe themselves, and wash their hands. I cannot stress how important these skills are!!
Pack a change or 2 of spare clothes in the event of a potty accident in their backpacks. Children will be expected to clean up and change themselves if an accident occurs. If they cannot manage, a parent will be called to assist.
Coughing and sneezing…Please teach your kids to cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough. When we cough or sneeze, droplets filled with germs enter the air and can be spread to other people nearby. It is also good etiquette and a polite practice that children should learn.
PLEASE teach your child how to wash their hands.
It is also so helpful if your child can learn their name, first and last.
Welcome to Frisco ISD! You can use this site to find information about enrolling your student in one of our schools – no matter if he or she is new to our District or has previously attended an FISD school.
Either way, Frisco ISD requires families provide proof of residency each year in order to complete the enrollment and registration process. That’s because schools are assigned based on where a student lives. FISD does not accept out-of-district transfers or fees to enroll out-of-district students.
Acceptable proof of residency is one of the following:
A copy of a current (current or previous month) utility bill (electric, gas or water) which shows the current usage on it.
A current lease (for 30 days until a utility bill is available).
If you have recently purchased your home, a copy of the closing papers will suffice until a utility bill is available to reproduce (within 30 days).
If you are living with a relative or friend in the FISD attendance zone, an affidavit must be completed, notarized and returned to the school office along with a current utility bill.
Students living apart from parents—Refer to Policy FDB (LOCAL).
Please note the enrollment process will not be complete until this documentation is received by your child’s campus. Students will not receive a class list or course enrollment information until it has been provided. Students who are unable to produce documentation to verify residency the Frisco ISD attendance zone may not be able to attend a Frisco ISD school and will be subject to withdrawal. If you have questions, or need to have a copy made for you, please call the school or come by our offices.
Presenting a false record or falsifying records is an offense under Section 37.10, Penal code, and enrollment of the child under false documents subjects the person to liability for tuition or other costs. TEC Sec. 25.002(3)(d).
Kindergarten Round-Up
Each April, Frisco ISD elementary schools host registration for students entering kindergarten the following school year. To attend kindergarten, students must be five years of age or older on or before September 1.
This early registration process gives parents information to ease the transition into kindergarten and assists the District in planning for enrollment growth and staffing needs. Please take advantage of this opportunity to register your child!
REQUIRED VACCINES
State law requires children to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases to attend school in Texas. Getting your child vaccinated protects your child's health and that of the community.
Students cannot go to school without the appropriate documentation for the required vaccines or a valid medical or conscientious exemption. This is required in order to find out a student’s teacher at Elementary Meet the Teacher Night or to pick up his or her class schedule at secondary schools.
The following links outline the requirements in Texas, as well as exclusions from compliance and Frequently Asked Questions. Please note required vaccines, including the doses required, may vary in Texas from other states/countries.
The Frisco Independent School District Health Services Department does share personal identifiable student health information with state and local public health entities on a need to know basis for the purposes of immunization compliance and communicable disease control as required by state law.

Kindergarten Qualifications
A student is able to attend the full-day kindergarten program if he or she is five years of age or older on or before September 1 of the school year.
A student who is younger than five years of age as of September 1 may enter kindergarten if he or she is able to pass the third grade STAAR test.
A child may be enrolled in the first grade if he or she is at least six years of age at the beginning of the current school year or has been enrolled in the first grade, or completed kindergarten, in the public schools of another state prior to transferring to the District.
If a student's parent(s) wants the child to enter first grade prior to their 6th birthday and the student's 6th birthday is before December 31, he or she may take the kindergarten acceleration test to see if he or she may be placed in the first grade. This test is administered in the spring for young people who already reside in the District and are seeking a placement for the upcoming school year.
If a student moves into the District in the summer or early fall, they may enter kindergarten and then take the test in the fall and be placed into the first grade accordingly based on the outcome of the test.
If you are moving to Frisco ISD from another state during the school year and have a student in kindergarten, please note that your student may not be eligible for transfer into kindergarten during the current school year. Please contact the campus for more information.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
Do NOT send your child to school for the school nurse to decide if they should be here.
Always refer to the circumstances below or seek the advice of your Pediatrician.
Kids need to be free from a fever for 24 hrs w/out medication (<100.0 ) before returning to school. Fever reducing meds do not treat the illness.
However, illnesses like vomiting & diarrhea may not come with a fever and are still be a reason to stay home from school.
It's important to be mindful of other families.
There are kids at school who may have underlying medical problems and what just causes a cold or runny nose in one child, could cause a very severe illness where they could wind up in the hospital or worse.
Students should not attend school in the following circumstances:
Signs of severe illness, including fever, irritability, difficulty breathing, crying that doesn’t stop with the usual comforting, or extreme sleepiness.
Diarrhea (3 or more episodes of loose stools in 24 hours). A child must be diarrhea free for 24 hours without the use of diarrhea suppressing medications.
Vomiting two or more times in 24 hours, unless a physician feels the cause of vomiting is not an infectious disease and the child is in no danger of becoming dehydrated. A child should have one or two meals without vomiting before returning to school. Your child may be sent home from school for vomiting one time.
Temperature of 100 degrees or above. A child must have temperature below 100 degrees for 24 hours before returning to school without taking a fever reducing medication.
Questionable rash until a physician has determined the rash is not caused by an infectious disease.
Known communicable disease must be treated for the appropriate amount of time as directed by a physician.
Recommendation of a physician or school nurse.
If a child becomes ill while at school, faculty and staff do their best to isolate him or her and contact parents promptly to pick up their student.
Please note: If you would like your child to receive oral nonprescription medication at school, such as Tylenol, Advil, Benadryl, Tums, Cough Drops and Throat Strips, you must bring the medication to the school nurse and complete the Request for Administration of Medication form. Click here to review the medication policy guidelines.

On average, the clinic sees 40-70 kids per day.
Every visit to the clinic is logged into an electronic record keeping system.
You may not hear from me:
Skinned knees, abrasions, chapped lips, lost baby teeth, minor bumps and bruises are all normal parts of childhood. The teachers all have classroom boo-boo boxes to help take care of these minor issues in class and at recess.
The most common complaints are headaches, tummy aches and dizziness. It’s often from thirst, hunger, feeling tired or pushing themselves too hard. Most headaches and stomachaches will work themselves out on their own without any medical intervention. A student does not need to come to the clinic if their headache or stomachache just started. Usually, these ailments will resolve themselves in 30-45 minutes. If they are seen in the clinic, they will be assessed, drink water, allowed to rest and return to class when they are feeling better. It usually resolves quickly and the child goes on about their day.
Lots of kids like to come see the nurse, not all of them have a true medical issue going on. If this issue is determined to be mental health related, I will see if the school counselor can talk with them.
Please share pertinent info or concerns with me and your child's teacher.
Do NOT send your child to school for the school nurse to decide if they should be here.
