Class Announcements
Welcome to 5th Grade!
Dear 5th Grade Parents,
The fifth-grade team is thrilled to embark on this journey with your child this year! We are looking forward to an enjoyable and exciting year with your student. The first day of school is full of excitement and a little bit of nerves, even for teachers. However, we look forward to providing your student with their best year yet! We will explore, discover, create, share, communicate, collaborate, and grow. The curriculum moves quickly, but holds a world of opportunities and knowledge for your students, and you will LOVE the results!
Essential Things to Know:
Snack: We will be having a snack during the school day. Please note that our lunch is early this year, 11:30. Therefore, students may have a snack in the middle of the afternoon between Rotation 1 and Rotation 2. We are nut-free classrooms due to allergies. All snacks must be clearly labeled as nut-free. As per school policy, if snacks are brought in a plastic bag, the label must also be placed inside the bag. Snacks that are not nut-free will be sent home with your child.
School Books & Backpacks: Please ensure that your child’s backpack is checked nightly. Please also ensure that your student has all of their books and take-home folder packed inside. The take home folder should be brought to and from school each day.
Birthdays: We love celebrating birthdays! This year, we would like the focus on your child’s birthday to be on the fun, not the food. On your child’s special day, they will be able to choose from a variety of FUN options for the whole class to enjoy. Please note that no food will be consumed during this special time. Goodie bags are not permitted to be distributed at school for any celebrations, including class parties.
Take Home Folders: All correspondence between school and home should go in this folder. Be sure that your child brings this to school, as we will ensure that they get it home. This folder will be organized on the first day of school.
Homework: Students are encouraged to practice reading every night! Students will have occasional ELA homework that support the lessons learned in class as well.
Math homework assignments are given to reinforce lessons that are taught in class. Since a new lesson is taught almost every day, students will have math homework almost every night. Math homework packets will be given out at the beginning of every topic and will also be posted on Ms. Pucci’s Math Google Classroom.
Science and Social Studies homework will be assigned as needed to reinforce, review, or introduce topics throughout each unit. While not assigned daily, homework will be assigned frequently, especially when a test is approaching. Please check your child’s planner.
Specials: We have different specials every day of the week. Students should come to school wearing sneakers on gym days.
