Consider this your "cabin refresher" page - give it a quick read to remind yourself how things work up there!
Ensure you have entry codes for gate on highway and lockbox at the cabin! (need codes? text Dani! 720.339.0012)
AS OF JUNE 30, 2026 WESTERN BOULDER COUNTY IS UNDER STAGE 2 FIRE RESTRICTIONS due to hot, dry weather, drought conditions, and elevated fire danger AND firefighting resources are limited due to the number of active wildfires being fought in multiple locations around Colorado. THIS MEANS THE CABIN IS AT HIGHER RISK OF WILD FIRE THAN NORMAL. We would like to ask that no one use the outdoor fire pit or light the charcoal grill until the fire restricitons in the area are lifted.
Start by making sure the flue is open! You will find wood and kindling inside the cabin and outside in the woodshed. Replenish what you use indoors for the next guest (and try to remember to bring up some paper or cardboard to use as fire starter!)
Clean out the ashes from the fireplace when they are completely cool and put them in the metal trashcan outside.
The cabin runs on a solar-powered battery system.
Please use electricity thoughtfully - turn off lights whenever you're not using them.
If the battery monitor shows 24 volts or higher, the batteries are in good shape.
Refer to the Checkin / Checkout lists for how to power the system up/down.
There is no running water at the cabin - be sure to pack in what you need!
The cabin uses an EcoJohn incinerating toilet.
Please remember: ✅ Human waste, ✅ Toilet paper, ✅ Toilet bowl liners
Never put in: Feminine hygiene products, Baby wipes, Paper towels, Trash, Anything other than toilet paper and waste
The toilet takes ~30 minutes to complete a burn cycle.
The propane stove and oven is a true antique! Burners and the oven must be lit with a match or lighter.
Always shut off the yellow gas valve behind the stove after cooking.
The cabin's primary heat source is the propane cookstove in the living room.
Turning on the ceiling fan will help to circulate warm air so the cabin stays evenly heated upstairs and downstairs.
Refer to the Cabin Manual if the pilot light needs to be relit.
You will find several solar powered lights around the cabin.
Downstairs lights are controlled by wall switches, upstairs lights are controlled directly at the light fixture.
Please leave the cabin ready for the next group! Clean up after yourself, take all trash with you, and check the "check out list" to make sure you've shut everything down safely.
If you notice we need something replaced, add it to the shopping list!
