NY State Online Learner's Permit Test

Fort Edward High School students looking to receive their learner’s driving permit can now take the test via the Internet in the High School Library.  The test is made available through the Online Knowledge Test Application program offered by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

This service is designed to allow students who are 16 and older to obtain learner’s permits without the typical wait at the local DMV.

Qualified students (ages 16 or older) may stop by the library any time to pick up a copy of the State Driver’s Manual and required paperwork.  Students should follow the procedure below.

Online Driver Permit Test Procedure:

  1. Students must be 16 or older to obtain the learner’s permit.

  2. Qualified students may stop by the library any time to pick up a copy of the State Driver’s Manual.

  3. Students cannot schedule their test until at least one week after they pick up their manual, to allow for proper study time.

  4. Schedule all test appointments with Ms. Burch.

  5. Students must bring a form of picture ID to the test appointment.

  6. Ms. Burch or the library aide will access the testing website to obtain a password for the student.  That password unlocks the test.

  7. After the student finishes the test, Ms. Burch or the library aide will access another site to determine whether the student passed or failed.

  8. If the student passes, he or she is given a verification print out to bring to DMV.

  9. This service is open only to students.
