We have had a wonderful offer from a group of Leduc citizens who have organized the local chapter of The Prom Project. They have volunteered to supply Grad gowns and a limited number of suits for our grads in response to what Fort McMurray schools and students have experienced over the last 6 months. They did this in Leduc for our grads from last year and it was a wonderful experience for the graduates. All who came went away with beautiful gowns and suits. Check out The Prom Project website.
When? February Family Day weekend - February 19, 2017 is the date they will be ready to have the graduates come.
Where? Westwood High School Gym
Times? TBD but probably around 9 a.m.
Who? All graduates in Fort McMurray are invited - it does not matter what school you attend
Cost? Free free free - all dresses and suits have been donated by former grads all across Canada as well as many stores have donated brand new items
How does it work? Each high school will have a sign up sheets posted some place in the school. Listen for announcements and read your Grad info websites. You do not need to record your name on this sheet - just your approximate size. This is so that the people who are organizing this event can make sure to bring the appropriate number of gowns in each size. They currently have well over 2000 gowns so they will not be able to bring them all. We will need the rough numbers and sizes by January 15th.
Grads will simply come to Westwood's gym, browse the racks of dresses and suits, try them on in the WW change rooms and leave with whatever they want.
"Maclean's Magazine" is doing a story about the grads in their June 14 issue. They would like to have some pictures of the grads in the school engaging in grad preparations, if possible. If any of the grads or staff have access to pictures showing students working on grad decorations or organizational meetings or things of this nature, please forward them to Mr. Bergen so he can provide them to the magazine. His email address is email@example.comPlease provide a list of any students in the picture, so we can ensure they have agreed to have their photo appear in the magazine, if it is used. This is going to be quite the story, so if we can provide them with some unique pictures, it will make it even better. Thanks"
