My name is Becca Swanson; I graduated from The College of New Jersey in the summer of 2000, and I have been teaching in the Florence Township School District since the fall of that year. This is my 22nd year at Roebling School!! Over the years I have been lucky enough to teach so many amazing students, who have taught ME so much in their time with me!
I try to make my classroom the type of environment that makes my students feel safe and "at home." I utilize some ideas from the Responsive Classroom Model, where positive reinforcement and teamwork are encouraged. We have a morning meeting each day, to greet each other and talk about what is going on in room 203. I make it a point to get to know my students as individuals , which allows me to instruct and work with them based on their needs.
A Little More About Me:
I grew up locally, in the Bordentown area. I currently live in Bordentown with my family. I have been married to my husband Jay for 22 years, and we lived in Roebling for almost 10 years before returning to Bordentown. My husband works in the Roebling/Florence area, and many of my students have met "Mr. Swanson" over the years. He is famous for being able to fix anything, most recently he repaired one of my student's ear phones!
We have a 17 year old son, named Brendan. (His nickname is "Lumpy," and you will all learn about why that is, and all about him!) Brendan is in 12th grade and loves to read, write stories, play basketball, soccer, and board/video games, and most of all he loves everything about FOOTBALL!!! He is always interested to hear all about my students and what we are doing in class.
We also have a crazy dog named Charlie whose interests include squirrels, rabbits, and playing with (and destroying) all of her many toys. Charlie also enjoys her early morning walks with yours truly.
As for me, I like spending time with my family, writing, reading, cooking, and all things music (I love to sing; ask any of my former students!) I love learning new things, and most of all I love teaching!!
We are going to have a wonderful year!!
