The Geography curriculum is continuously changing as important events occur throughout the world. Topics may change as the year progresses.
Intro to Geography:
This unit is an introduction to geographic concepts, tools and terms.
Canada/United States:
This unit introduces students to the elements of boundaries of the United States and Canada. Political divisions, physical features, and climate are studied. The culture of the Inuit is also covered.
Latin America:
This unit is a study of the physical and political regions as well as the environmental issues of the Amazon Rainforest and isolated tribes. Students learn about the development of countries.
Europe:
This unit will show why Europe is a developed continent. Topics will include the European Union, breakup of the Soviet Union, Europe as a tourist destination, and how colonization improved their development.
Africa:
This unit will focus on Africa as a developing continent. Students will read the novel "A Long Walk to Water" and focus on topics such as colonization, refugees, and how development affects the daily lives of people in Africa.
Asia:
This unit will focus on how population affects different countries. It will cover topics of sweatshops, natural disasters, and environment.
Oceania:
This unit will focus on the development of countries that are isolated. It will cover topics of island formation, climate and environment.
