The Fourth Commandment

A teenage boy was given a curfew by his parents. He was to be home and in bed by 10:30 PM. The boy complains about it every chance he gets, and sometimes he completely ignores it and stays out much later.

The teenage boy's dad has a ten minute drive to work. It would take a lot less time if the speed limit through town was more than 25 mph. One day the dad was in a hurry so he disobeyed the speed limit.

The teenage boy's mom also works and is very busy. The boy's school requires parents to check the students' homework and "sign-off" on it. The boy's mother thinks this is a silly requirement. She feels she is too busy and it's not important. So she often just signs her son's homework without even looking at it.

What problem does this boy and his family have? Yes! They have a problem with authority. However, as we study the fourth commandment we will see that all authority comes from God, and therefore he wants us to obey those in authority for they are acting as God's representative on earth.
