Students are permitted to bring a healthy snack to eat in the classroom. We will not have a set snack time in the morning and in the afternoon. Students are not required to bring a snack, but I do encourage them to bring a snack with protein to help keep them fueled throughout the day.
Candy and cookies are not permitted as daily snack. Students will be told to put them away.
Students are permitted, and encouraged, to bring water bottles to stay hydrated throughout the day. Students are allowed to refill water bottles throughout the day as necessary. There is a water refilling station in the collaborative space. PLEASE ONLY SEND WATER BOTTLES WITH POP UP SPOUTS AND NOT OPEN MOUTHS OR STRAWS. No other beverage is permitted in the classroom.
Birthday treats are NOT permitted this year. We will sing "Happy Birthday" to recognize students and they get to choose a new book from the 'Birthday Book Box'. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate his or her half birthday.
What is mindfulness? “Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.” accessed from https://www.mindful.org/what-is-mindfulness/
Mindfulness will be practiced daily in the classroom. Research shows that mindfulness helps reduce anxiety and stress while boosting learning readiness. We will use GoNoodle, Alo Yoga, and Class Dojo videos as well as various breathing techniques throughout the day as a class.
