My research interests focus on the link between ownership structures, incentives, and firm performance. My work has been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Review of Finance, the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Journal of Banking and Finance, and the Journal of Business. My paper on Secondary Buyouts with Sridhar Arcot, the late Zsuzsanna Fluck, and Uli Hege has received the 2015 Syntec Conseil en Management award for Best Academic Paper in the Finance/Strategy category.
I teach Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Financial Management, and Private Equity in several masters and executive programs. I also teach Empirical Corporate Finance in the ESSEC Ph.D. program. I have been nominated runner-up (second place) for the ESSEC Foundation Teaching Awards in 2022 and one of the “Top Ten Professors” in 2015 and 2016.
At ESSEC, I was Associate Dean for Research (2015-2021) and led the Private Equity Chair (2007-2011).
I have a Ph.D in Finance from INSEAD and an MSc. in Management and a BSc. in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon, Portugal.
