LIBRARY TIME

STORY TIME AND BOOK CHECKOUT

Erin school students LOVE to read and regardless of their age they really enjoy story time. Students in grades 4K and 5K have library story time every week followed by book selection and check out time. Grades 1 through 3 have story time, checkout time and a STEAM activity each week. 4th and 5th grade students listen to a read aloud and check out library books every other week. On alternate weeks 4th and 5th grader's time in the library is devoted to a STEAM activity.

One of my favorite things about being a school librarian is reading aloud to students and getting them excited about books. Of course our young students love story time but it is a very special experience to watch the rapt expression on older student's faces as they listen to a story. Our library collection has many, longer more complex picture books that are perfect read alouds for grades 3 through 5 and I incorporate these as much as possible in addition to chapter books.

I FORGOT MY BOOKS...THE DOG ATE IT...LOST BOOKS

Even if your child forgot their library books they will still choose and checkout books with their classmates during library time - no sad faces here! If students have overdue books we will give them a reminder to take home. If books have been checked out well past the due date I will send an email reminder to parents.

If an unfortunate accident happens to a book - and it happens - don't worry. Please contact me by email or attach a note to the damaged book and we will work something out. We ask that students/parents replace badly damaged or forever lost books with a gently used or new copy. That way our library collection stays updated and all our favorite books are still available for our students.
