Classroom Orientation

I am the Special Education Collaborative Teacher.

What is Collaboration?

In its simplest terms, collaboration is a program which allows students with special needs to remain in the same class as their peers, as much as possible, for his/her education. In order to meet the special needs of this child, Mrs. Hull or myself go into the classroom to help your child learn strategies to be successful in the regular program and work with the classroom teacher in modifying the program for your child when necessary.

My goal for your child is to be successful in the regular setting. All students can learn and are entitled to an education that accommodates their needs and abilities, in the least restrictive environment. I team teach with the regular teacher in math, reading, and writing to challenge students and maintain high expectations while recognizing that students do not learn the same things at the same pace or in the same way. Some of the things I do:

    • Ensure the provision of special education services for students with IEP's.
    • Apply specialized instruction techniques and behavior techniques.
    • Modify and accommodate using curricular materials.
    • Adapt testing and assessments of student's progress.
    • Provide additional reports and consultations to parents.

As the Collaborative Special Education Teacher for Shute School, I reinforce the rules from each classroom that I go into or pull from. The rules include:

  • Listen Carefully
  • Follow Directions
  • Work Quietly
  • Respect Yourself and Others
  • Respect School Property
  • Work and Play Safely
