Changing general permissions and sharing (i.e. who can see the site)
Step 1: Select the link next to the name of the site. It will say the current privacy setting, i.e. public on the web or private, etc.
Step 2: Click on the “change” link
Step 3: Select the desired general view capabilities and click “save”
Allowing specific people to edit content
Step 1: Select the link next to the name of the site. It will say the current privacy setting, i.e. public on the web or private, etc.
Step 2: Add the email of whom you want to give further permissions.
Step 3: Select the desired level of permission for each person. “Owners” may change all content and edit the format and design of the website. “Editor” may edit only the content and cannot change the design of the website.
Note: Editing general content does not include adding content to lists nor adding categories. Refer to the adding new page category for information on how to edit and or create new lists.
General approach
Click the “Edit Page” Link and you will be able to add general content and change the name of the page (though not the URL, to change the URL, press “U”)
Adding a link
Once you are in the editing mode, you can add a link to any page on your site, an email, or to an external URL by hi-lighting the text you want to appear as a link and then pressing the link button.
Step 1: Select “Create Page”.
Step 2: Select “List”.
Step 3: Type the name of the new category page. This will be the that appears in the URL, so keep it short. You can change the title on the page if you want to later.
Step 4: Make sure it the new page is in the correct location and change it if necessary.
Step 5: Click create page once and wait while the page is created.
Step 6: The following page will load. Select “Create a custom list”
Step 7: A new window will pop up. Add the desired columns and make sure the appropriate type is selected, i.e. URL type is selected for the URL column and text type is selected for description, ect. Commonly used columns include “Name”, “Description”, and “URL”
This is how you can change the sidebar to update automatically or manually. Automatic updates arrange alphebetically. Manual updates arrange in whatever possition you put them in, but you will have to add every new page (i.e. new category) manually for it to show up in the sidebar.
Step 1: Go to “More actions” and select “Manage Site”
Step 2: Under “Site Appearances” select “Site Layout”. The screen should load as in the screen shot bellow. Either select the edit option for the horizontal navigation bar (tabs) or the sidebar navigation edit option.
Step 3: The following screen is the same for the the sidebar and horizontal navigation editing. Select the “Automatically organize my navigation” to have it update automatically. Deselect the automatic option to use manual navigation to order the site in a specific manner.
If you still need more help, you can always use the help function. There are many forums from both users. external businesses and Google.
Note: The help button may be in slightly different locations in different browsers, but it is in that general corner.
If you are really lost, you can ask me (Nicole Maston) for help and I will get back to you as soon as I can. My email is nicole.maston @ gmail.com.
