Weekly Progress Reports (see sidebar), the Gantt chart, and this Project Management page should be printed out before meetings with the sponsor and instructor.
All team members should be able to explain all items on the progress report.
Place a "*" at the beginning of the title of the active week Progress Report (see * in sidebar).
Project Objectives
Concisely list and prioritize the project objectives and constraints
High Priority Objectives
Design and manufacture a competitive subframe and independent rear suspension which is compatible with TR-18.
Create a platform for future teams to investigate the design of independent rear suspensions.
The system will not have the same wheel lift problem as the current TR-18 setup does.
Secondary Objectives
Compatible with both de Dion and independent rear setup.
Create a low weight design that is comparable in design quality to the dependent system.
Conduct preliminary comparisons tests and gather baseline data from both dependent and independent rear suspension systems.
Elementary investigation of how unsprung mass affects IRS and de Dion suspension.
Compile the list of possible uses and testing directions with this system for the future teams.
Other Constraints and Issues
Comply with FSAE rules.
Keep the weight similar to de dion setup.
WOW Design Solution
Publish a paper based on the testing data which would prove the validity of the superior rear suspension solution. Hopefully to be accepted by the FSAE community.
Test how the system affects axle hop.
Compatible with TR-16.
Risk Reduction Strategy
List areas of risk and strategy that will be used to eliminate risk in the design process.
Engine bolt risk reduction: Approximate the shear and bending forces applied to the engine bolt via subframe and determine if said bold is strong enough to support the system
Suspension Component Analysis: FEA on uprights, control arms, rockers, and subframe to provide adequate F.O.S. for each component
Engine block measurement: If possible, measure the rigidity of the engine block, which will be supporting all rear suspension loads.
Intermediate Milestones
Identifying meaningful intermediate milestones is a critical for effective project management. Together with your sponsor identify such milestones, and specify specific performance requirements you aim to meet at each milestone.
