EMUNI ENPI 2nd Experts Meeting

27-28 November, Ankara, Turkey. The EUROMEDITERANEAN INIVERSITY organized during the period 24-28 November a number of events in Ankara, Turkey which were attended by Union for the Mediterrranean Academic experts and by University rectors and Presidents from over 140 institutions coming from all the member states of the Union for the Mediterranean.

Accompanying the other meetings and events, the EMUNI-ENPI Experts meeting was held at the Hacettepe University Center in Ankara, Turkey on 27 and 28 November 2010 and chaired by Prof. Nehale Farid Mostapha, ENPI project team leader. It was attended by Prof. Joseph Mifsud, President of EMUNI University, Prof. Dr. Ugur ERDENER, the President of Hacettepe university, Prof. Nehale Fariid Mostapha, Dean, Beirut Arab University, ENPI Project team leader, EMUN, and 32 ENPI experts coming from Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, Palestine, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey and UK.

The EMUNI-Experts meeting was opened by the speeches of two distinguished keynote speakers: Honourable Rodi Kratsa, Vice President of European Parliament and H.E. Ilen Chet, Deputy Secretary General of The Union for the Mediterranean who expressed their support to the 10 groups of experts working on the achievements of the ENPI PROJECT as one of the most important projects encouraging cooperation in higher education, and contributing to the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Higher Education, Science and Research Area.

After a welcome to participants, Prof. Nehale Farid Mostapaha-ENPI PROJECT team leader- described the background and objectives of the meeting. Prof. Nehale made a presentation explaining the guiding principles of the project, its objectives, its strategies, its role, and its guidelines. She pointed that the Guiding Principle is that the vision, objectives and priorities of EMUNI are and will remain closely related to those of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and for this the ENPI project should produce integrated programs specifically targeting the UfM priorities. The project should be using Academia as a vehicle for sustainable development in the region and not as a final goal in itself. The ENPI project translates this guiding principle into concrete action. Six postgraduate programmes are being developed for launching by the Euro-Mediterranean University in the six projects identified by the Union for the Mediterranean.
