In February 2009, an agreement between the government of Japan and the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt on establishing of Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) was officially approved. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supported the technical cooperation project "E-JUST Establishment Project (October 2008-January 2014)" from the preparatory stage (Phase-1) for the establishment of E-JUST, as a result, E-JUST became an engineering graduate school in February 2010.
In the subsequent "E-JUST Project Phase-2 (February 2014-January 2019)", strengthening the foundation of the engineering graduate school, by supporting the establishment and operation of the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of International Business and Humanities.
E-JUST Project Phase-3 (February 2019- Present), is the successor technical cooperation of E-JUST Project. It includes the support undergraduate program of the Faculty of Engineering based on practical education through experiments, practices, and research.
EJUST Center of Kyushu University aims to strongly support the activities of the E-JUST project, the establishment of the foundation of the top-level research university in Egypt. An expected outcome is for E-JUST to autonomously operate the graduate and undergraduate school of Engineering, and sustainably conduct high-quality research and education consistently through the undergraduate and graduate schools.
E-JUST Center would contribute to Kyushu University and other Japanese universities so that they could collaborate with foreign countries, particularly the Middle-East and African regions, gather international students from these regions, and facilitate academic and research cooperation. The center will strongly promote E-JUST Project, whose success would have a significant effect on the Middle-East and African areas as Egypt is the gateway to both regions making it an important geopolitical partner. Proving the effectiveness of E-JUST education model as a successful and sustainable higher education model for developing countries will promote its implementation in other parts of the world. Finally, E-JUST Center aims to support those countries to pursue industrial and economical growth by ripening their human resources development infrastructure (e.g., university faculty and staff, researchers, engineers, and so on).
