Expectations & Routine
Classroom Routines/Expectations
Be kind, respectful, prompt, & come prepared with all materials.
Respect for your classmates is essential when taking risks in speaking a second language. This includes our words as well as our actions.
Respect participation, personal space, and belongings.Water bottles/ drinks with lids are welcome (no cans).
Food can be distracting and messy and is generally not allowed in class. However, let me know if you have occasions when you need to have a snack & can do so without distraction or mess. This privilege is subject to change.
You are responsible for leaving your work area clean.
All MPHS rules are upheld.
Social Contract
We will work together to be sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe in the Spanish language classroom. Respect is the number one expectation for all in the Spanish language classroom.
Spanish class is a place you can take risks, make mistakes, and earn credit by learning, correcting, and reflecting. If a situation arises that interferes with this, it will be handled in private between the teacher and that student or students outside of the classroom. If the behavior continues, we will seek parental &/or administrative involvement to create a behavioral contract.
Cell Phones, Earbuds, and Chromebooks
Your presence, physical & mental, is the first, necessary step to success of & enjoyment in class! 🙂
Cell phones may not be used during class. This includes taking pictures. Please let me know if/when you have a circumstance that does not make this reasonable before class. You may
A. leave your phone in the teléfonos box until the end of class OR
B. Ensure that your phone is out of sight & touch (not in your lap, under you, or next to you) so that nobody is distracted by it during class. Having your cell phone out in class will result in option A.
Headphones or earbuds will be allowed for very specific purposes only:
Classroom listening activities
When permission is granted to listen to music while working. Chromebooks only.
Otherwise, please have them out of your ear, so we can engage in conversation.
Chromebooks are to be used only for specified activities. If you have extra time in class, check that you are all caught up on work & corrections & if so, use any link from our class website for additional practice, spanish games, spanish news, etc. See me for more ideas or direction.
If phones, earbuds, or chromebooks become a reoccurring distraction, privileges will be limited or lost until admin &/or parents are contacted to help come up with a solution.
Tardy Policy
You will have 2 free tardies per semester. If you receive a 3rd tardy, you will meet with me at lunch or after school to make a plan to resolve your tardy problem. You will contact your parents to explain the situation and the plan.
5 tardies in one quarter will result in administrative follow-up and a structured day.
