Brief Details about some industry related projects completed are
Development of a Microcontroller based Speed measurement System
This was done for locomotive applications as an effort to explore a low cost digital route to a speed measurement and recording system. The developed unit was extensively tested on EMU trains and the design details have been transferred to the client.
Development of Electronic Diesel Engine Control
In this work, an electromagnetic actuator was used as a replacement to a mechanical governor for a 1200 HP diesel engine. The work was done in collaboration with the IC Engines Laboratory at IITM. The developed technology has been transferred to the client.
Optimal Design of Power Circuitry for Automobile Headlamp
In anticipation of higher dc voltages in the automobile systems, this was a project which aimed to develop a power circuit to use existing 12~V lamps from a 36~V dc bus. The developed technology has been transferred to the client.
Development of Sensor Head for Remote Sensing of Conductive Mineral Deposits
This study involved the development of suitable power excitation circuity to power an inductive sensor. This required a non-conventional current waveshape and energy recycling requirements which were successfully met.
Study of Alternator Fault Conditions
Two alternators on DG sets installed by the client had failed during synchronization with the mains. This was an investigative study to establish the situation under which the voltage and current waveforms such as those recorded during the fault could be attained.
Modelling of Diesel Engine and Alternator System for Traction applications
This study involved the development of models for the engine and alternator for motive applications. The diesel engine modelling was accomplished in a collaborative effort with the IC Engines lab.
Power Electronics based high voltage DC Power Source
This involved the development of a 10 kV DC power source from ac mains.
