There are a number of options for parents and carers to bring their children to school and pick them up safely. Wallyford is a school community that is committed to reducing the number of cars around our school to ensure safety and promote healthy choices. These are your main options for drop off and pick up:
Walk to school - if you live nearby, please walk to school if you can.
Cycle/Scooter - we have lots of cycle racks for children to use if they come to school on bikes/scooters.
Walking Bus (with optional breakfast) - our Parent & Carer Council run a Walking Bus which leaves The Livingroom Church on a Tuesday morning at 8:20am and returns at the end of the day at 3:35pm. The flyer is below giving full details of how to join this.
Park & Stride - there are a number of areas where you can park close to the school and walk in safely. These are shown on the map below.
You can sign up your child(ren) for one of the following options:
Option A: P3-7 - Walking Bus only - your children will be allowed to go into the playground once they arrive at school. This service is FREE.
Option B: P1-7 Walking Bus and Bright Starts Breakfast Club - your child(ren) will come in for breakfast and be supervised to their line or their class at 0850am in time to start school. The cost of this option is 50p per child unless you are registered for Free School Meal Entitlement, in which case this option is free.
Option C: P1-7 Bright Starts Breakfast Club - your child(ren) make their own way to school and join Bright Starts Breakfast Club from 0820am. The cost of this option is 50p per child unless you are registered for Free School Meal Entitlement, in which case this option is free.
You can sign up using this FORM .
If there is a place available, you will receive a confirmation letter/email and a 'Bus Pass'/'Breakfast Club Pass' for your child(ren).
We are always looking for volunteers to help with our Walking Bus and Breakfast Club. If you would like to support us, even for 1 hour a week, please get in touch with the Parent & Carer Council Chair if you are interested via your class rep or email wallyfordpacc@gmail.com.
As a school community we want to foster good relations with our neighbours. To help with this, we would very much appreciate it if parents/carers would avoid parking too close to junctions (which can reduce visibility for pedestrians crossing) blocking driveways or parking in private car parks. This includes:
the private car park off Oliphant Gardens
the private car park on the Ravensheugh development
the private car parks in The Pines
Please also note that Inchview Road is a dead end and you cannot park and leave your car at the top of this road as it obstructs the turning point.
DISABLED SPACES FOR BLUE BADGE HOLDERS: please note that Blue Badge holders are NOT permitted to park on the double yellow lines on Masons Way - this is because the double blips shown denote loading/unloading restrictions. If you are a Blue Badge holder, please use the disabled spaces at the front entrance of the school and, if there are none left, there are 2 disabled spaces in the staff car park which may be available.
Parking at New Flats
We have sought clarification around whether the parking spaces at the newly built flats can be used by non-residents. Currently, none of the roads have been officially adopted yet and therefore all the parking bays remain private. Once the roads are adopted, the parking bays shaded in green in the image below will be private and cannot be used by non-residents. I hope this helps.
Our learners ask all our parents, carers and families to sign a Parking Pledge. Here is a link to the Pledge and, if you haven't already done so, our learners invite you to sign a pledge and return this to the school.
Please download, print and sign either Page 4 or Page 5 of the Parking Pledge for Wallyford and keep us all safe. Let us know if you'd like us to print a copy for you.
We have offered and held consultations with Parents & Carers in partnership with East Lothian Council colleagues:
We held an open meeting for Parents & Carers on 19 February 2025 to allow our parents & carers to discuss any issues around parking and safe drop off/pick up with key officers from East Lothian Council. Around 20 parents/carers attended. Also at the meeting were:
Zena Diggle, Head Teacher
Alan Stubbs, Service Manager for Roads
Richard Kerr, Active Travel Officer, Roads Services
Leanne Ayton, Principal Officer, Equity & Inclusion
Marshall Greenshields, Senior Roads Officer, Infrastructure
We then held a further meeting on 27th August 2025 to follow up on the challenges/points raised at the meeting and the actions/responses where appropriate. Here is the document detailing this information:
