MASTER OF EDUCATION PORTFOLIO

Aaron D. Hamann

Iowa State University

(Spring 2011)

Welcome to my electronic portfolio. This site is the capstone project culminating from participation in the M.Ed. program at Iowa State University. This site contains artifacts and reflections on 5 performance indicators (adapted from the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for Teachers) for evaluation of my progress towards a Master of Education degree with Specialization in Curriculum and Instructional Technology.

For navigation of the portfolio, please use the links below, as the navigation above is for the rest of my teaching/professional sites. You can always return to this starting page by clicking on "E-Portfolio" on ANY of the navigation bars. The 2 columns below contain links to the various stages of my journey as well as direct links to any of the artifacts that are included in the portfolio.

My Journey

Where did this start?

My journey begins before the third ISU cohort and this section sets the stage for what was to come as I entered the M.Ed. program to continue my journey as an educator. The included pdf is not an artifact of the program, but rather a summary of what had occurred up to this point.

Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues in the Use of Technology

This stage of the journey explores the issues that are sometimes more difficult to define when using technology but can be easier to demonstrate or witness. These best practices are many times guides along that way that are both helpful and necessary.

Technological Applications

The first major guidepost in this journey was a dabble in WebCT design, a very powerful and innovative technological tool that has serious implications for learning.

Technology Planning and Integration

Not to be outdone by WebCT, my next challenge was to use open-source Moodle to design a course I actually teach every year at my school. This is another effective (and on-going) technology tool that required a lot of designing and continuous planning as I try to improve it.

Research and Assessment

Action research in its purest form, and a project that I actually improved upon as I took an educational leadership course at another university. This project continues to evolve as I strive to improve daily the learning environment in my classes.

Instructional Technology Leadership

Taking my skills to the streets and sharing what I've learned with colleagues, both in school and in area. My journey has moved onto a bigger road with more places to explore and understand, and the road seems to stretch out before me as far as I can see.

Where do I go now?

The journey doesn't end now that I have completed the required classes. In fact in many cases, my journey is now just beginning as I look to implement my knowledge and new expertise to improve the people and places in my own community and beyond.
