We tested the Condition Stimulus Aversion at 3 Black Skimmer Colonies and 3 locations with plovers. Fish Crows were attracted to our decoys and attempted to grab eggs. When they received the electric stimulus they usually left. Because the energizer pulses it can take a second or two. For birds with chicks too large for crow predation, we feel this is a suitable method to try. Unfortunately, we suspect crows might have taken some plover chicks, indicating this method might be less effective for smaller species.
Fish Crows who received an electric stimulus (or saw others) were generally very hesitant to take an egg.
