Reading Tips

Learning to read and instilling a love of reading are two of kindergarten's largest goals. Start making reading a part of every day life. If you're reading the newspaper, have your kindergartner point out sight words to you. When you are driving, point out "environmental print" - words like Target, Verizon, STOP, Exit, etc. Show your kindergartner that everyone reads by setting an example and reading for pleasure yourself! Go to the library together and dive into a mixture of nonfiction, fiction, poetry, emergent leveled reader books, and classics from your own childhood.
