Check our class website often for lots of important information, resources, and updates on our daily activity! Essential emails and website links are located at the bottom of each page.
Hello Families,
I am back at FJS and loved seeing our class back in action. They have grown and learned so much with Miss Marra, she did a wonderful job!
Please read the following about end of year events - this time of year is jam packed!
5/25 - No School for Memorial Day! Enjoy the long weekend.
5/29 - Unified Game Day (rain date is 6/1) - Kindergarten will be out playing all morning, followed by ice pops, and will have face painting during recess. Pizza is provided at lunch. Please return the permission slip regarding all of this if you have not already done so. Apply sunscreen at home before coming to school. Only bring sunglasses and a hat if you are sure your child will keep them on and be able to not misplace them. Bring an extra water bottle and wear sneakers and the special green frog tee shirt. Contact Mrs. Naccara with any questions about the day and/or parent volunteering.
6/4 - Beginning of our Kindergarten Countdown! 12 more days of school and each day will spell out the letters in KINDERGARTEN. We'll have a fun theme or activity for each day. There is not much preparation on your end, but please keep track because a few of the days are dress ups or bringing something in. I will also send home a paper copy of this the week of 6/1.
6/5 - Kindergarten End of Year Celebration! At 12:30. Parents will be seated on the steps of the outdoor amphitheater and kids will perform on the blacktop. Please try to have your kindergartner look their best for the occasion! Limit of two guests per child so that there is enough room for the audience. We will not be coming into the building unless there is inclement weather, but Mr. Tuorto has asked you to register as a visitor for the event just in case you need to come into the building. Here is the link to do so: 6/5 Harrington Kindergarten Celebration. Also please enter into Pick Up Patrol ahead of time if you plan to bring your child home after the performance. We will all have our backpacks ready to go and a sign out sheet will be available after the celebration.
6/17 - End of Year Party. We will be decorating the white shirts that you were asked to bring in for your child. They should wear them on the day of our party on 6/17. It is a beach/luau theme and we will be having a picnic outside. Bring a beach towel to sit on.Only our two class parents are invited to attend and volunteer.
6/19 - LAST DAY and Early Dismissal. Continue bringing your backpack and purple folder every day, including the last day. We will be taking supplies home a little bit at a time. Let me know if your child will be absent on any of the last few days so I can make sure they are sent home with everything for the summer.
Thank you! I look forward to seeing you at some of our many fun events!
Ms. Harrington
Upon my return from maternity leave, I have noticed items in our room that have gone missing or are broken and in need of replacement. With such a large class size, there has been a lot of wear and tear on our classroom supplies this year. What I would normally spend my own money on has gone up in price, and I could use your help! If you feel so inclined and are able to generously donate any of the items from the linked wishlist, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!

The fourth Tuesday of each month is ice cream day at FJS. It Is our way of celebrating anyone who had a birthday that month. You can order ice cream ahead of time through the PTA online. It is totally fine if you have purposefully chosen not to purchase the ice cream, but if you happened to have forgotten to put in the order and the window has already closed, it is not too late! You can contact the PTA's lunch chair, Holly Hadyk, whose email address is on the East Hanover PTA website.
Our standard homework routine will begin in September.
A packet will be sent home each Monday. The cover sheet says what homework to complete each night. Please space it out each day of the week to encourage the daily habit. Rip off that page and send it into school the next day in your child's purple folder. Make sure it has their name on it. Work should be completed in mostly pencil, or crayon if it involves coloring. No need to sign the bottom of the homework cover sheet.
Heart words are also sent home each Monday (unless it is a review week). Practice the words briefly each day.
In addition, the homework sheet will instruct students to read for at least ten minutes every night (independently or together with family members) and add it to their monthly reading log. Keep coloring in symbols on the log and send that in whenever it is complete! Thank you.
Check this website's right-most tab entitled "Resources." A lot of important information can be found there, and may answer some questions you have.
Information is periodically sent home about ordering books for your child through Scholastic Book Club! Each month, I will be sending home book flyers and a note with a due date for the order that month. You would go online, order books with our class code, and they can be shipped to the school or directly to your home. I will send them home in your child's backpack if shipped to school. This is of course optional for all families. The books you order using our class code helps me to earn points so that I can also buy books to have in our classroom! The books offered through Scholastic are a great affordable and age-appropriate option. It is so important for kids to hold physical books in their hands at this age! Thank you!
