R- Restate the question and give a preview of their answer.
A- Answer the question in your own words.
C- Cite evidence from the text to support your answer.
E- Explain how the evidence you selected supports your answer.
S- Sum it all up with an strong ending sentence.

RACES
4- Student shows understanding of the question and answers all parts of the question. The question is restated, and the student has provided details/examples from the text to support their ideas and opinions. The student ends his or her response with a closing sentence.
3- Student shows understanding of the question and answers all parts of the question. The student has provided details/examples from the text to support their ideas and opinions. The student is either missing the restated question or closing sentence.
2- Student shows understanding of the question, but has not answered all parts of the question or has not provided details/examples from the text to support their ideas and opinions. They may or may not be missing the restated question or the closing sentence.
1-Student shows little to no understanding of the question and has not completely answered it.
0- Student’s answer is off-topic or unrelated.
