Curriculum

LITERACY

Our literacy curriculum is comprised of reading, listening, vocabulary acquisition, spelling, and grammar. It is a cumulation of resources that best suit the needs of your student. Students will be placed in small groups for guided reading. Guided reading will take place during The Daily 5. Primary assessments are based on skills and strategies learned. They will include an unfamiliar story called a “cold read” to assess how students apply the skills they are learning. Vocabulary, spelling, and grammar are also quizzed. Grammar quizzes will be given, which will count as a secondary assessment. Spelling assessments are counted as secondary. 

WRITING

We will be completing a number of different fun and exciting writing topics throughout the year. We will practice the following types of writing: narrative, informative, descriptive, and opinion pieces. Student use the writing process each time they write. We will also be utilizing the Schoolwide Writing Series. Please note: a printed copy of every assignment might not come home
