An Induction of Labour is done when there is some factor (eg. Blood Pressure) that increases the risks to either mom or baby or both.
The timing depends on the severity of this factor.
There are risks associated with Induction (eg. increased risk of Cesarean Section), but these risks are weighed against the risk of continuing the pregnancy with the underlying factor.
In the absence of any other factor, we generally aim to schedule an induction if you've gone past your due date by 1 week (41 weeks).
