My name is Lexi Caldwell and I am a proud teacher of Biology and AP Environmental Science at Durham School of the Arts!
After graduating in 2016 with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Richmond, I spent a year doing research on hepatitis B and liver cancer at the Blumberg Institute in Pennsylvania. My favorite part of working in the lab was mentoring students on science fair experiments, so I decided to move to Durham to obtain my MA in Teaching from Duke University (2018).
I am a Robert Noyce Scholar through Duke, meaning that I am lucky enough to collaborate with a strong community of peers and mentors in STEM education. I completed my spring student teaching internship at DSA three years ago, and loved it so much that I have been a full-time teacher here since.
Outside of the classroom, you will find me training and playing with my beloved mutt Duckie, reading best sellers (check out my science book recommendations), collaborating on K-12 STEM pipeline program research, volunteering in an ecotoxicology lab, running on trails around Durham, or volunteering at Saving Grace.
