Born in Cuba, Margarita Jourgensen (MarJour) is proud of her Spanish and Dutch ancestry. Margarita came to America with her parents and lived in Chicago where she met and married her husband Ed. His job offered worldwide travel opportunities allowing Margarita to visit museums and galleries around the World. Margarita's favorite is the "Prado Museum" in Madrid, Spain with its contemporary artists buildings, including Picasso. The more art museums and galleries she visited, the more she knew she wanted to become an artist to have the ability to express herself and her multiple concerns through bold color, forms and lines.
Margarita is not afraid to share her joy, emotions, contagious enthusiasm and changing moods with you through her painting and 3-D collages. After returning from Europe, Margarita settled in Colorado and studied ceramics, batik, acrylic painting and photography at Colorado Mountain College. During this period she studied with several artists in the Southwest area. In 1984 Margarita moved to Florida and continued to study and develop her artistic vision in addition to painting she created collaged pottery and paper-maché sculptures. She was one of the Artists selected to create a Gator for the Gators Galore that were displayed throughout Palm Beach County. She was also featured in the" Best of City Link" and created one of the Playbill cover for Kravis Center She also created several posters for different events throughout the United States. Her work has been exhibited and won many award in exhibits throughout South Florida and many reside in private collections in the U.S.A and Europe.
Most recently she embarked a new challenge using her knowledge of digital photography. She combines digital photos, old computer parts, acrylic paints, and other mixed medias to create her 3D collages. Margarita likes to build her paintings, she said, everything is 3 dimensional, nothing is flat. Life is full of surprises....and so are her paintings.
