Q: How do I find out about available scholarships?
1) A scholarship list along with the application forms is available in the Guidance office.
2) Students may visit the college web site and check for their list of scholarships.
3) Students may ask your counselor to call the interested college and seek the information.
4) Students may ask your counselor about the scholarships that are available.
5) Scholarships given by colleges may only require an application for admission. Others have applications that can be obtained from the college.
6) Scholarships are listed on the counselor website.
Q. How do I get the actual application?
A: The counselor office has applications for scholarships that we announce as we receive them.
Some applications are done online.
Q: What do I do if I need recommendations?
A: Give recommenders a resume, a copy of the scholarship guidelines, and a specific deadline. Ask them at least two weeks before the deadline. They should return the recommendation to yourself or your counselor
Q: Where do I turn in the application?
A: Turn applications into your counselor at least a day before they are due. They will send the application, recommendation and transcript together.

Q: How will I be notified if I have won a scholarship?
A: Colleges and other scholarships will notify you if you are a recipient. Some scholarships are not announced until awards day or graduation.

A: It is appropriate to send a thank you, especially for local scholarships. Don’t forget to thank those who wrote you a recommendation!
Q: Do I need to notify my college about outside scholarships I’ve received?
A: Yes, they will want to know all of the scholarships you have received, because it may affect your financial aid package.

1. Get organized. Place scholarship applications in deadline order and prioritize each award. Local awards and college-specific applications deserve top priority because you’re more likely to earn them.
2. Make a list of your activities, honors, and volunteer or paid jobs. Give a resume to everyone you ask to write a recommendation.
3. Use quality references such as a teacher, coach, or counselor. Encourage them to write specific examples of your abilities and skills.
4. Read the directions and requirements carefully.
5. Get an early start on essays. Describe your interests, hopes for the future, and leadership qualities.
6. Pay close attention to grammar, spelling, and neatness. Have someone proofread your application. Type your application if possible.
7. Turn in the scholarship before the deadline. Scholarships applications mailed five days ahead of deadline would ensure that the paperwork would arrive in time by postal delivery.
