The DCS Robotics club started with the High School VRC program, which began in 2014 under the leadership of Eric Vidrine. We have had at least one high school team each year since then. The high school teams went to the VRC World Championship 3 times and participated in other robotics competitions like RARC, the Mini Urban Challenge, and the Congressional App Challenge. In 2016, the Middle School VEX IQ program was started, and two of the three middle school teams went to Worlds that year. Since then, the VEX IQ program has had at least one team qualify each year for Worlds. The two programs grew as new members came into the middle school program and older members went from middle school to high school. In 2018, the middle school program got a new sponsor: Misty Kirkland. Two years later, when the idea of coaches was introduced, Eric Vidrine, Misty Kirkland, and Kerry Wright became the coaches of the four high school teams. Currently, we have 16 high school VRC team members on four different teams. We also have 16 junior high VEX IQ team members on four different teams.
