Abstract strategy games usually are built on a simple and straightforward design that doesn't involve very much, or any, theme with the game. They involve little to no luck or random chance, and usually involve one player overtaking their opponent. In The Duke, players have a set of tiles that have a rigid set of movements. Their aim is to trap their opponent's Duke using these pieces. While the goal is clear, the theme doesn't matter very much and the options are laid out for all the players to see and strategize over.
