You must have a TRANSCRIPT RELEASE FORM on file with me. Click for form
Many schools utilize the Common Application for application purposes. There is an entire section on this website dedicated to the Common Application.
Please email me a request to send out a transcript to that college.
ACT/SAT scores are on your official transcript. Many universities require that those scores are sent to them directly from the ACT/SAT website. When that is the case, you need to request your scores from the testing center and send them directly to the college (if you did not do so when you took the test). There is an additional fee for this.
Application fees can vary from $20.00 to $100.00. NOTE: If you are on free lunch, you may qualify for a fee waiver. Contact the guidance office for a form to send to the college.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Academic/merit scholarships--- As soon as you are admitted to a university, be sure to apply for all the scholarships for which you qualify. All colleges have websites dedicated to scholarships.
Financial Aid Office--- The university website will have a link to the Financial Aid Office. There may be additional scholarships which may require a separate application. This is not automatic... you have to search for yourself.
Other Scholarships--- We have a number of local scholarships that usually become available in January. Be sure to check your emails as well as this Senior website for the latest scholarships. It is your responsibility to apply for these scholarships.
FINANCIAL AID
To receive any financial aid (federal government or from the college), you must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You and your parent(s) need pin number. Keep those in a safe place as you will need them to electronically sign the FAFSA form. You and your parent will need your income tax information. Each college has a deadline to apply for financial aid. These are ABSOLUTE DEADLINES! FASFA portal opens on OCTOBER 1, 2021. DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINES. Some are as early as mid February.
There will be a Financial Aid meeting for students and parents on TO BE DETERMINED to review the FAFSA and other financial aid information. I will also provide you a link for a video presentation.
MEN
You are required by federal law to register for the Selective Service when you turn 18. You cannot receive any federal aid or scholarships if you don't register. Failure to register is punishable by law. Register at www.sss.gov.
DEADLINES
It is your responsibility to be aware of and adhere to deadlines. It is highly recommended that you set up a calendar with all of your important deadlines for the schools in which you are interested. (i.e. application deadline, financial aid deadline, acceptance deadline)
BE AWARE of the "Postmark Deadline" vs. the "Application Deadline."
Please allow at least one week from your request for me to process your materials. You cannot give me materials the day before or the day of the deadline and expect them to be processed, in the mail, and then arrive at their destination on time. Most institutions will NOT accept a faxed transcript.
RECOMMENDATIONS
If you ask a teacher to write a letter for you, you should give that teacher at least 2 weeks notice. When applicable, make copies for future use.
If you are using a teacher as a recommender on the Common Application, be sure to let them know so they can look for the email they receive to upload a recommendation.
NCAA
If you are planning on participating in sports at the college level, you will need to register with the NCAA (Clearing House). Click here to go to site. There is a fee. Make sure I have a signed records release form on file. Once I receive this from you, I can send all materials you need directly to the testing agency. You need to send your ACT or SAT scores directly to the clearinghouse from the ACT/SAT testing site. I cannot do this for you.
