I am so excited to be your language arts teacher. My name is Mrs. Coufal, it’s pronounced “so full”. It’s a Czechoslovakian name, so no wonder it is so confusing! We have a very busy year in store.

The fundamental need to exchange meaning and share the human experience is the special province of language arts. All people share this need and will do so throughout their lives. Language arts form the foundation for all effective communication. They constitute an individual's ability to comprehend, construct and communicate meaning through critical reading, thinking, writing and speaking in many different forms. These skills are essential in the 21st Century because of the explosion of communication media.

Please do not think for a minute that we'll abandon traditional language arts, we'll just be adding a new spin to class. Reading and writing are the one skill upon which all knowledge and academic growth is based. Without proficiency in these areas, students will suffer in other academic areas.
