What is Junior Thespian Conference (aka Junior ThesCon)?
Every year, students from across the state attend the Thespian Conference in Denver. It is a day filled with great theatrical opportunities – workshops (acting, dance, technical theatre, improvisation, film, etc.) individual event performances, and a main-stage show put on by some of the top high school thespians in Colorado.
Feel free to check out the CO Thespians website (http://cothespians.com/conferences/junior-thespian-day/).
It is truly a wonderful opportunity for students to explore and learn about theatre, and it is a great preview of the high school conference that follows the junior conference day.
Can I perform at Junior ThesCon?
Yes! The Colorado Junior Individual Events performance series is intended to be an educational program that offers the opportunity, using the audition approach, to receive constructive feedback on prepared theatrical material.
The goal for participating students is to find their talent, strengths, and weaknesses and to grow as theatre artists. The performances culminate in the selection of a showcase cast of outstanding entries, some of which will be featured on the afternoon main stage for the Junior Thespian Conference. Decide if you would like to prepare and perform an Individual Event. You have the opportunity to perform for professional feedback and a group of other student thespians.
How many Individual Events can I sign up for? Is there an additional cost?
Students are limited to signing up for only one event, and there is an additional $25 fee for the Individual Events per participant.
What types of Individual Events are available?
Individual Event options include…
1. Solo Acting (2 min limit, 2 contrasting monologues) - one person performing, no singing
2. Duet Acting (5 min limit) - two people performing, no singing
3. Group Acting (5 min limit) - three or more people performing, no singing
4. Solo Musical (5 min limit) - one person performing a musical theatre song
5. Duet Musical (5 min limit) - two people performing a musical theatre song
6. Group Musical (5 min limit) - three or more people performing a musical theatre song
What kind of pieces (song/monologue/script) can I perform for an Individual Event?
You will need to find a piece to perform from a published play or musical. Ms. K is happy to help you find a piece, but you also need to do some looking on your own! There are rules and guidelines that we can explore if you are interested. Come talk to Ms. K, look at the "Individual Events Resources" on Classroom, or look on the website, www.cothespians.com.
