About Me

Welcome to Copper Mesa! My name is Renee Portillo. I will be your child's teacher this year. It is my hope that you and I can work together as a team to help your child learn in the best way possible. Your involvement is a very important part of my classroom.

This is my twenty-fourth year of teaching. I taught in Jefferson County for three years, taught three years in Castle Rock, and have been at Copper Mesa ever since it opened 17 years ago. I’ve taught Kindergarten, first, third, fourth grade, and now second. On a personal note, I am married to Rick, have a 16-year-old son named Quentin, and twelve-year-old twins, Eliana and Dominic. My kids are amazing--and I’m not just saying that because I’m their mom. :) We also have a little dog named Cece and puppy named Ollie and a cat named Smokey. We spend most of our time outside shooting hoops, playing baseball, going on family bike rides, riding horses, and just enjoying the Colorado sun!

My goal this year is for each student to learn in a stimulating and responsive learning environment. In my classroom, your child will feel secure as well as challenging. It is my hope that each child in my class will exhibit a high degree of proficiency in all areas as well as develop a joy of learning that will endure. The social and emotional growth of your child is just as important to me as his/her academic growth and development. In my classroom, you will see children communicating, collaborating, using critical thinking skills, and being creative- their "super skills".

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. You can contact me by sending me an email. I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year. It will be a year filled with fun and learning.
